Delusional beliefs about spouse’s fidelity is the most common delusional disorder seen in our society. They secretly watches all the movements of their partner, follow the partner, raise groundless allegations against the fidelity of their partner. They may even search the partner’s inner wears to get evidence.

False belief that others are trying to harm them, or poison them

False belief that another person who is usually of a higher status is in love with the patient.

False belief about having extra ordinary qualities such as immense wealth, power etc.

People may be harmed and injured by patients who hold such beliefs. This may also lead to murder, assault, suicide, disruption of family relations, enemity with neighbours and problems in personal life. Apart from this false belief and problems in certain aspects of life, related to these beliefs, patient may be behaving quite normally . So the diagnosis will be difficult sometimes and this will create problems between families of couples since both of them deny the possibility of a mental illness in the patient. Patients often deny treatment, since they are not aware of the falsity of symptoms which makes the situation worse .

Treatment is mainly with antipsychotic medications. Co operation of family members is very important. In the initial phases, in patient treatment may be required, because of their lack of insight. Untreated patients may be dangerous to the victims of their delusional beliefs.
